One of the rarest Peterson markings ever produced — the standalone "EIRE" stamp was used only briefly in 1938, immediately following the Irish Constitution that renamed the state from the Irish Free State to Éire. This first iteration of the new nomenclature predates the more common "Made in Eire" circle stamp, making it a true collector's treasure.
Historical Significance
While the broader "Eire Era" spans 1938–1948, the single-word EIRE stamp has a far more focused history — appearing primarily in 1938 and quickly replaced by the standardized circle stamp. Finding one in this condition is exceptionally rare.
Shape & Profile
This is a Dutch Billiard shape (3160), visually identical in profile and proportions to the classic Peterson 309 — robust, elegant, and deeply satisfying in the hand.
